Early Pregnancy Scan (6-17 weeks) €95

6-11 Weeks: This scan is performed to establish the presence of a single or multiple intrauterine pregnancy. We look at the heartbeat and measure the embryo to determine the age. This early measurement is very accurate for dating. Anatomical details are limited at this stage.

12-17 Weeks: This scan is performed to estimate the age of the pregnancy and assess the health of your baby. We look for the presence or absence of any physical abnormalities, measure the age of the gestation and determine whether it is a single or multiple pregnancy. Depending on how far along the pregnancy has progressed dictates how much of the anatomy can be assessed and what measurements are taken.

Optional: The Nuchal Translucency can also be measured between 11.2 – 13.6 weeks at your request.

We use the first day of your last menstrual period to determine the gestational age. We compare that with specific measurements of the foetus by measuring the distance from the top of the head (crown) to the bottom of the body (rump). We also include measurements of the gestational sac and of the heartbeat. These measurements are very accurate and can determine the expected age even if you are unsure of your last menstrual period.

Ultrasound Dimensions inception in 2007 was in response to a need for a medical ultrasound centre of excellence. Our highly trained sonographers have maintained strict comprehensive protocols and procedures with state of the art equipment and ongoing education. Detailed Anatomy Scan (18-28 weeks)

The anomaly scan or mid pregnancy scan as it is sometimes called is ideal for those parents looking for reassurance or as a secondary option and provides an added opportunity to assess the baby’s well being.

At this time examine the baby's internal organs and also check for obvious abnormalities. The four most common are choroid plexus cysts, renal pelvic dilatation, echogenic bowel and an echogenic foci attached to the muscle of the heart. It is important to understand that although these can be seen in affected pregnancies they can also be seen in normal healthy babies.

The baby’s head and brain is examined for shape and size. We will look at the stomach and bladder. The baby swallows some of the amniotic fluid that it lies in and so some of that fluid will be seen as a black bubble in the stomach and the urinary bladder as well. Yes, the baby has a wee inside about every half hour so the urinary bladder fills and empties during the scan. Baby’s legs, arms, hands and feet are examined. The umbilical cord is assessed to make sure there are three vessels. The sonogrpaher will do standard measurements and look at the baby’s lips and nose for any obvious defects. The placenta will be documented to lie anteriorly or posteriorly and to ensure that the placenta does not cover that cervix.

The spine is assessed to make sure that all of the vertebrae are in alignment and that the skin is closed. The baby’s abdominal wall is checked at this time too to make sure that all of abdominal organs are in their correct position. 90% of all abdominal wall and spine defects can be picked up by ultrasound. The chest is assessed to view the lungs and the position of the heart. At Ultrasound Dimensions we are concerned with raising the standard of detecting a baby with a possible heart defect. The first step in improving care of “heart babies” is improving the detection of heart disease before birth. The “5 Transverse Views” is a practical and proven way to screen for heart disease at the routine “20 week” scan set up by the Tiny Ticker organization a national charity in the UK.

Procedure Includes:

• Ultrasound exam       • Medical obstetric ultrasound report       • Glossy picture print
• CD with pictures and video clips.       • Optional gender determination (upon request)

Nuchal Translucency Scan (11.2-13.6 weeks) €260

The most accurate way of estimating the risk of a fetus having Down Syndrome or other chromosomal abnormalities is carried out from 11.2 to 13.6 weeks and depends on the age of the mother, amount of fluid behind the neck of the fetus, presence or absence of the fetal nasal bone, presence or absence of any physical abnormalities and the level of two hormones (b-hCG and PAPP-A) in the Mother's blood. The nuchal translucency pregnancy scan is a first trimester combined screening test to include a blood test and an pregnancy ultrasound scan. This is not a diagnosis but can identify with 90% accuracy those with Down Syndrome.

The fluid at the back of the foetal neck can give information that may raise the suspicion of a problem. The measurement of this fluid is taken at a very specific time in the pregnancy between 11.2 and 13.6 weeks gestation.

Nuchal Translucency (NT) is only a screening and is most effective when taken in combination with: • Maternal age • Maternal blood sample • Ultrasound at 11.2 - 13.6 weeks • An accurate measurement of the nuchal translucency

This method of screening increases the detection rate of Down's syndrome and other major chromosomal abnormalities with an accuracy of 95%. Sonoraphers and doctors need special training and high resolution ultrasound equipment to perform it correctly. They must be certified by the Fetal Medicine Foundation in London UK, the organization that provides the international standards and software that enable us to evaluate your baby's risk.

For this first trimester screening to include blood work, NT measurement and detailed ultrasound contact us for further details.

*Blood is not taken on site - please call or email for details.

Procedure Includes: • First Trimester Combined Screening Risk Results • Ultrasound exam • Medical obstetric ultrasound report • Glossy picture print • CD with pictures • Video clips on a CD will also be included if possible

*Medical Cards (GMS) are accepted for all medical ultrasounds. A reduced rate is applied for all scans.

Well Baby Scan (34-40 weeks) €130

This well baby pregnancy scan is performed to determine the position, growth and the health of the fetus by measuring the size of the fetal head, abdomen, thigh bone and calculation of an estimated fetal weight. We will also examine fetal movements, placental position, amount of amniotic fluid and assess blood flow from the placenta by colour flow doppler.

We check to see if the baby may be feet-first or buttocks first (breech), side-on (transverse) or at an angle (oblique) presentation. The placental site will also be assessed to rule out placental praevia. We would include standard measurements and heart rate.

Procedure Includes: • Ultrasound exam • Medical obstetric ultrasound report • Glossy picture print • CD with pictures • Video clips on a CD will also be included if possible
