True or False? Feta cheese is safe to eat during pregnancy.
This is False:
Feta cheese is one cheese that should be avoided during pregnancy. The reason for this is because it may be contaminated with listeria which is a bacteria that can be dangerous to unborn babies and harmful to adults making them sick causing flu like symptoms, nausea, headaches and vomiting. Other unpasteurized cheeses to avoid are Camembert, Brie and goat’s milk. If you are experiencing any symptoms then you should visit your doctor who can prescribe antibiotics to help fight the infection before it affects your baby.
The good news is that you can eat hard cheese like cheddar because bacteria is less likely to grow in cheese that is hard.
