In this video and photos, we are showing you a sample of what you would see at 9 weeks gestation during an early pregnancy scan.
What You Can See at 9 Weeks
At 9 weeks, your baby is around 2.3cm long (about the size of a grape) and you can typically see:
- The heartbeat - beating strongly at around 170 bpm
- Head and body - distinct but still proportionally large head
- Tiny limb buds - arms and legs beginning to form
- Movement - your baby may already be wriggling!
The Magic of Early Scans
An early pregnancy scan can check:
- Pregnancy location (in the uterus)
- Viability (heartbeat present)
- Dating (accurate due date)
- Number of babies
What Happens Next
After your early scan, you'll typically have:
- A dating scan around 12 weeks
- The anomaly scan at 20 weeks
- Optional 3D/4D and growth scans later in pregnancy
