About our endometrial thickness scan service:

An endometrial thickness scan monitors the thickness and appearance of the lining of the womb – known as the endometrium. Examining the lining in this way helps to follow the changes that occur in a normal cycle, estimate ovulation or to follow the changes within the reproductive organs in response to fertility drugs used to stimulate the lining and ovaries.

It can accurately predict when ovulation is expected and when the lining is at it’s optimal thickness.

When is the endometrial thickness scan performed? This scan is normally performed at 1 – 2 day intervals from about day nine of your menstrual cycle, or as indicated. Day one is the first day of bleeding. You will probably have three scans in any one cycle.

A detailed gynaecological scan will be performed on your first appointment; subsequent scans within the same cycle focus on the endometrium and offered at a reduced price.

What happens during an endometrial thickness scan?

Endometrial thickness scans are performed internally for maximum accuracy. A long narrow probe is inserted into the vagina so that the appearance and thickness of the womb’s lining can be assessed.

What’s included in the report? The gynaecological survey will include clinical diagnostic information on the:

  • Uterus
  • Endometrium
  • Right ovary
  • Left ovary

Results from your ultrasound examination will be available immediately after your appointment. We will provide a digital copy for you and your gynaecologist or fertility specialist immediately and directly to your email address or mobile phone.
